Black Panther 2 is on the way next year, but we'll have to wait slightly longer for it to continue the incredible legacy of the first movie.

The sequel will be the first time we've returned to Wakanda since the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman in August 2020, with everybody involved in the production keen to ensure it pays tribute to the late star.

"Everyone felt, the first week of shooting, the presence of Chadwick and missing him on that throne," reflected Angela Bassett, who will return as T'Challa's mother Ramonda.

"But we all came together and just paid homage to him before we began, which was wonderful... everyone just speaking beautiful words about him and expressing how much we care and how he informed and inspired us."

Even though it's filming right now, the sequel has been pushed back to November 2022 as a result of Marvel's latest release date shuffle, which was purely down to production schedules of upcoming MCU movies.

We don't yet know how the sequel will deal with the untimely passing of Boseman (although he won't be digitally recreated), but there's still plenty of news to savour as we wait for the movie's release next year.

So without further ado, here's everything you need to know about Black Panther 2, aka Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Black Panther 2 cast: Who's coming back for Black Panther Wakanda Forever?

It has been confirmed that the sequel will honour the legacy of Chadwick Boseman and won't recast the role of T'Challa. Thankfully as well, there are no plans to use a 'digital double' in the sequel.

"There's only one Chadwick and he's not with us," said Marvel Studios' EVP Victoria Alonso. "Our king, unfortunately, has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we are taking a little time to see how we return to history and what we do to honour this chapter of what has happened to us that was so unexpected, so painful, so terrible, really."

Kevin Feige added: "So much of the comics and that first movie is the world of Wakanda. Wakanda is a place to further explore with characters and different subcultures. This was always and initially the primary focus of the next story. We're not going to have a CG Chadwick and we're not recasting T'Challa."

Lupita Nyong'o said: "Ryan Coogler has some really, really exciting ideas that I look forward to bringing to life with the rest of the family."

Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Danai Gurira and Angela Bassett are all expected to reprise their roles in the sequel as Shuri, Nakia, M'Baku, Okoye and Ramonda, respectively.

Wright is reportedly set to "take on a more prominent role" in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, while Narcos: Mexico star Tenoch Huerta is in talks to play one of the villains of the sequel.

It's unclear if Daniel Kaluuya will return as W'Kabi, but Martin Freeman will return as CIA agent Everett Ross.

Will Michael B Jordan return as Killmonger? It's unlikely given that Killmonger was killed off in the first movie, but weirder things have happened.

New to the cast is I May Destroy You's Michaela Coel, whose role has yet to be confirmed, as well as Dominique Thorne (If Beale Street Could Talk) as Riri Williams.

Behind the scenes, Ryan Coogler is returning to write and direct Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and he's bringing back the original creative cast.

Black Panther 2 release date: When is Black Panther Wakanda Forever released?

After the delay in October 2021, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will now be out in cinemas on November 11, 2022.

That's a move of four months from July 2022 and the sequel takes the place of The Marvels, which moves back to February 17, 2023. While nothing is set in stone, we hope this will be the last shift for the movie.

Filming is underway, but not without its ups and downs as Letitia Wright was hospitalised after an on-set injury. In September 2021, Bassett said that "she had a little bit of a fall, but it's not too bad" and that she was "ready to go".

According to Deadline, production is set to wrap on the sequel in late November 2021.

Black Panther 2 plot: What's Black Panther Wakanda Forever about?

Now that we know for sure that the role of T'Challa will not be recast, the focus of the sequel will have had to change and all we officially know is that it will continue to explore the world of Wakanda, and beyond.

There's not much to glean from the first set photo, except that we're very excited.

Although the exact plot details for the sequel haven't yet been announced, it seems that our next visit to Wakanda will see us spend time with a range of characters while exploring the "mythology" of Wakanda more deeply.

It has been confirmed that Wakanda Forever will feature the aquatic villain Namor, with official plot details recently emerging via Production Weekly.

"Both Wakanda and Atlantis are hidden civilisations with advanced technology and increased militaristic abilities that decided to separate themselves from the rest of the world for their own safety, and in a way, out of fear," the details read.

Kevin Feige had hinted that he wanted to explore more of Wakandan history in the sequel, which could be a route to go down if they wanted to make it a prequel instead.

"Towards the end of the movie, T'Challa takes the herb again and encounters his father, where he's like, 'Hey, man. We've kind of screwed up, and I want to change it'," he told Entertainment Weekly.

"There's that moment where all of the ancestors come behind T'Chaka. We would joke and go, 'I want to see… what's their story? What's that story? Who was Bashenga, the first king of Wakanda? Who's that third to the left, behind T'Chaka? What was their story in Wakanda in 1938? That would be cool'.

"It all starts as conversations like that. The more audiences want to see these stories, the more opportunities we have to explore different places and time."

While filming is apparently ending in late November 2021, don't expect a trailer until next year, but we'd be happy to be proved wrong.
